Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 4

Day 4 down. This morning I consulted with nutrition guru, Jenny Parker from Nourish Your Soul, about where we are at on this detox journey, and I can very excitedly share that we have been given the ‘ok’ to slowly introduce solid foods back into our diet tomorrow.

I cannot wait to sink my teeth into…. a salad. No really, this brings me great happiness! We will be sticking with the whole vegan and raw thing initially to ween off the detox safely. And even this next stage will still be detoxifying for the body.

We mixed things up this evening with a big berry smoothie – strawberries, blueberries and goji berries. Delectable.

I’ve become aware of my attention being much sharper, and my energy during the afternoon was at a much higher level. I am also pleased to share that the couple of stubborn spots on my jaw line have dramatically improved since yesterday.

The hubby and I had a nice big chat about this whole journey, what has been the toughest parts and, would we do it again? We did come to the realisation that this type of thing would amazing for our bodies as a one day detox maybe every 3 months, maybe at the start of the change of each season. What I really set out to achieve was the first hand knowledge of detoxing. What knowledge I do have now is how healthy we already are, and that for our own bodies, minimal occasional detoxing would be perfect for maintenance. I think a program such as the one we have embarked on would be absolutely amazing for weight loss, rejuvenation, and cleansing the body’s cells from a toxic lifestyle of alcohol, processed foods, fast food, and stress.

I just have to note that Jen has been a great support and wise (super) woman during the week. It is truly beneficial to have someone to guide you, and who can check in on your progress regularly. Particularly when you have those ‘is this actually normal?’ moments!

Heading to the big city of Sydney tomorrow with my partner in crime. I miss living in that beautiful place. We’re looking forward to a solid lunch to say the least. And maybe a big walk from Bondi to Bronte. Either way I’m getting out in the fresh air, sunshine, and loving life!

Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 2

We have made it successfully through Day 2 of our detox – anyone who has ever done a cleanse before would most likely admit that they’re always counting the days. Visions of roast veggies and goats cheese have played through my mind. A warm slice of sourdough covered in a little ripe avocado with a sprinkle of pink Himalayan salt would delight my senses…

However, fortunately or unfortunately, I have yet to experience any major detoxification symptoms. This may be because I’m generally a very healthy person (including a little chocolate). Or maybe because it’s going to hit hard tomorrow.

My day started early, at 5am. Up I got to teach my Tuesday morning 6am Power Vinyasa Yoga class. I sipped an organic ginger and lemon tea to warm my bones. Once home, this was followed by a big, delectable green smoothie (with a hint of cacao). I was filled up to a satisfactory level.

I can’t lie, I’m continuously feeling a little hungry, but certainly nothing extreme. Lunch was a large green juice, with some super green powder added.

Feeling chilly again, I took myself and my eco Manduka mat outside for some sunshine and yoga. This is when I noticed a change in my body. My heart rate increased quickly, and there was a tendency to want to breathe through my mouth. Connecting with the messages from my body, I chose to move slowly. I allowed myself a couple of deep twisting postures to detoxify my internal organs and digestive system, followed by a ‘juicy’ hip opener, finishing with a headstand inversion to flush the blood throughout my body and stimulate the lymphatic system. A warming afternoon herbal tea was had, followed by a short nap, and off I went to teach my evening Foundations of Flow Yoga class back at Verve For Life.

I’ve finished off my day with a large purple juice for dinner once again – with a hint of cayenne pepper.

Interesting to note, my husband has experienced more detoxification symptoms – proving that every body is different. He has experienced headaches during the day and a brief hot sweat early in the evening. (Oh, and improved bowel movements – success!)

Before I hit the pillow tonight I intend to have a dry body brush all over, as I usually do weekly, have a warm shower, and then finish off by slathering on some nourishing organic sesame oil.

Wondering if the Day 3 detoxing symptoms will show their face – tomorrow my intentions are to head to a morning yoga class, attend a lunch time meeting, and then I am back teaching again in the evening.

Fingers crossed. It’s all a journey right?!
