Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 4

Day 4 down. This morning I consulted with nutrition guru, Jenny Parker from Nourish Your Soul, about where we are at on this detox journey, and I can very excitedly share that we have been given the ‘ok’ to slowly introduce solid foods back into our diet tomorrow.

I cannot wait to sink my teeth into…. a salad. No really, this brings me great happiness! We will be sticking with the whole vegan and raw thing initially to ween off the detox safely. And even this next stage will still be detoxifying for the body.

We mixed things up this evening with a big berry smoothie – strawberries, blueberries and goji berries. Delectable.

I’ve become aware of my attention being much sharper, and my energy during the afternoon was at a much higher level. I am also pleased to share that the couple of stubborn spots on my jaw line have dramatically improved since yesterday.

The hubby and I had a nice big chat about this whole journey, what has been the toughest parts and, would we do it again? We did come to the realisation that this type of thing would amazing for our bodies as a one day detox maybe every 3 months, maybe at the start of the change of each season. What I really set out to achieve was the first hand knowledge of detoxing. What knowledge I do have now is how healthy we already are, and that for our own bodies, minimal occasional detoxing would be perfect for maintenance. I think a program such as the one we have embarked on would be absolutely amazing for weight loss, rejuvenation, and cleansing the body’s cells from a toxic lifestyle of alcohol, processed foods, fast food, and stress.

I just have to note that Jen has been a great support and wise (super) woman during the week. It is truly beneficial to have someone to guide you, and who can check in on your progress regularly. Particularly when you have those ‘is this actually normal?’ moments!

Heading to the big city of Sydney tomorrow with my partner in crime. I miss living in that beautiful place. We’re looking forward to a solid lunch to say the least. And maybe a big walk from Bondi to Bronte. Either way I’m getting out in the fresh air, sunshine, and loving life!

Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 3

The end of Day 3 has finally appeared. We are officially at the half way mark, after cutting down our detox from 7 days to 6. Why? Well, firstly we are (I like to think) generally fit, slim and healthy people, so hopefully 6 days is enough time to cleanse (veggie obsession anyone?). And Sunday, being Day 7, is a huge day for us with plans from 6am until 6pm non stop.

My thoughts (mostly of food) today brought to my attention how easy it would be to drop this kind of thing all together. In fact, I really don’t know how anyone could go on for longer than a week – although it is done, and all the support to those people. Maybe this thought was due to my lack of detoxification symptoms, as mentioned yesterday. However, right before bed last night as I was brushing my teeth, I got a quick glance at my tongue (which gets scraped every morning) and gosh did it have a thick creamy-yellow coating!! Excitement plus! Yes, I was elated.

Today felt like cheating as we had two green smoothies (breakfast and dinner), and a green juice for lunch. Both hubby and I had a bigger day of commitments today than the prior two, and so the smoothies got us through! It’s amazing what a little organic raw cacao, or spices like cinnamon or cayenne pepper, can do to make your liquid meal a treat at times when you need it most – better than quitting I say.

This morning I did a beautiful Yoga class with the divine Iyengar instructor Claire Walshe at Verve For Life. The class was delicious, and I was certainly made aware of how this cleanse had affected the way my body worked during detoxification. My muscles felt weaker, and started to shake. My heart rate increased and I felt the need to breathe into my chest more than normal. With all this said, I left the class completely blissed out, and grateful for the investment of my time.

Energetically, my mornings are feeling great, so are my late evenings. But from around 1pm until 5pm I am feeling quite tired. But in no way has this feeling been a sluggish one. There is, within this feeling, also a sense of alertness. Something has changed. Shifted.

Tomorrow we will be over the hump and intend to start our day with lemon water and a big glass of green juice. As I ready myself to hit the pillow I can tell you that my partner in crime crawled in to bed over an hour ago – this is something worth mentioning since I don’t recall it him ever beating my to bed in the 5.5 years of our relationship!

Thanks for your support world. I hope you are feeling happy and healthy wherever you are.

Good night from Australia. xo
