Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 5

Today is the final day I will be blogging about this particular detoxification journey. We spent a big beautiful day at Bondi Beach catching up with friends from the days we worked onboard cruise ships (I used to be a professional dancer until yoga became my love).

As I’m sure you can imagine, from yesterday’s post, we were thrilled to introduce solid foods back into out bellies today. The morning began with a gigantic green juice to set the day off shining! And good thing we did. As for the rest of the day, we dined on organic juices and certainly some serious solids. For those of you ever in the area, I highly recommend checking out the rockin’ organic store in Bondi Beach, Earth Food Store. I think I may be slightly obsessed. They have a cafe attached, and the offerings are divine – not to mention dairy, egg and gluten free. Happy days! Although, I have to admit, we broke the rules of ‘weening’, and introduced some carbs back into the diet. But I’m pleased to report there was no stomach unease – except for exceptional fullness. I’m going easy tomorrow!

This weekend is going to be pretty huge. Tomorrow I am teaching in the morning, followed by a beautiful big photo shoot with Renee Bell from NFE Designs, then attending a delicious Wellness Workshop being conducted by my nutrition guru Jenny Parker from Nourish Your Soul. Then checking out one of my fave documentaries Food Matters at a local film screening (also run by Jen – wonder woman I know!).

Sunday brings me to a market stall I’m having at our local markets, followed by shifting all of our belongings to do a house sit for 3 weeks, and then finishing off the day teaching once again.

So realistically, weening back onto solids couldn’t have come at a better time. I must admit however, that having solid foods today filled me up big time (talk about stomach shrinkage whilst detoxing).

I’ve certainly learnt a few things about myself and my body over the past 5 days. A detox is something I can absolutely recommend. And the one piece of advice I have is that there is no one type of detox for every body. Hence why it is a super idea to connect with a professional, to guide you through the journey!

Coming very soon is an interview with the one-and-only Jenny Parker, from Nourish Your Soul. I can’t wait for you to hear the beautiful things she has to say.

Lastly, a big thank you to those that have sent me their messages and words of support. You guys rock!

Getting Down With Detoxification: Day 1

Today is (the) Day 1 of my detoxification program…

I’m a generally healthy person, and have always been attracted to the thought of experiencing a detox (it seems the healthier one is, the more inclined they are to get healthier!), however the problem is that I’ve also always loved the idea of enjoying my organic sourdough daily, a little goats cheese and a dose of my fav chocolate.

Did I ever think a detox would be easy? Hell no. Did I pick the best time of year to begin (it’s Autumn here in Australia)? Don’t think so! But what I did do right was seek the knowledge of my beautiful new friend and Health Coach Jenny Parker from Nourish Your Soul. This girl is incredibly passionate about all things food (as am I), and I’m so grateful for all her wisdom (particularly when I messaged her this afternoon asking if it’s cheating to make a warm soup for dinner as I was FREEZING cold).

The day started with a glass of lemon water. Followed by a green juice – and let me tell you it was delectable… No screwed up noses here (I’ve reined in my muso husband for the ride!). Lunch was a thick green smoothie. And dinner, a huge vibrant purple juice, with ginger, cayenne and chilli to keep these bones warm!

How do I feel on my first day? Mostly hungry. Big time. Don’t laugh, but I feel like I need to avoid Pinterest right now, due to all the luscious recipes that grace my feed on a daily basis. Hot herbal teas have helped me through. My morning felt great, but I hit a chilly afternoon sleepy slump – happily this only lasted a short period of time.

I’m fully aware day 2 or 3 could be quite hellish. But I guess it’s part of this journey to health.

What am I trying to achieve? A few things. I’d love to see a few persistent spots on my face disappear after years. I love a little more clarity of the mind and zesty energy in the body. And importantly to me in my career, I want to know how this detox thing really feels! A practice-what-you-preach sort of thing.

As I keep telling my husband (and myself), no one ever said this was going to be easy.

But it’s all part of my story.
